Hossam S. Hassanein is currently a leading authority in broadband, wireless and mobile networks architecture, protocols, control, and performance evaluation. He is also the founder and the Director of the Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL), in the School of Computing, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. TRL is a lab with extensive international academic and industrial collaborations. Dr. Hassanein is an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Speaker since 2011 and was an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer from 2008 to 2010. He has served on the program committees of many international conferences. He also serves as an associate editor of several international journals. He is a Fellow of the IEEE (FIEEE) and a former Chair of the IEEE Communication Society Technical Committee on Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (TC AHSN).
A recipient of several awards, Dr. Hassanein, was honoured with the Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO) Champions of Innovation Research Award in 2003, the IEEE Communications Society Communications Software Technical Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to routing and deployment planning algorithms in wireless sensor networks in 2016, and most recently the IEEE IoT, Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks Technical Committee Technical Achievement and Recognition Award for his significant contributions to the technological advancement of the Internet of Things, ad hoc networks, and sensing systems. Dr. Hassanein has authored, with his students and colleagues, over 600 publications appearing in journals, conference proceedings, book chapters, and books in the areas of computer networks and performance evaluation. With his co-authors, Dr. Hassanein has won numerous best paper awards: IEEE Wireless Communications and Network (2007), IEEE Global Communication Conference (2007, 2012, 2013, 2017), IEEE International Symposium on Computers and Communications (2009), IEEE Local Computer Networks Conference (2009), International Conference on Communications and Mobile Computing (2010), Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies (2011, 2012), International Conference on Innovations in Information Technology (2012), International Conference on Computing, Management and Telecommunications (2013), IEEE International Conference on Dependable, Autonomic and Secure Computing (2015), and International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (2018).
